Because Jesus is our Shepherd, we lack nothing we truly need.

This Sunday we began walking through Psalm 23 together and were reminded of a simple but deeply needed truth: because Jesus is our Shepherd, we lack nothing we truly need.

We looked at the Shepherd who reveals Himself, refreshes weary souls, and restores wandering sheep. In a world constantly telling us we need more, Psalm 23 invites us to rest in the presence and provision of Christ.

This coming Sunday is one you won’t want to miss. Following our 10 AM service, we will gather on the lawn outside the fellowship hall to celebrate as brothers and sisters publicly declare their faith through baptism.

Child Dedication Sunday is a special time for families to publicly commit to raising their children in faith, surrounded by the support of our church community. 

As a church, we come alongside these parents to pray, support, and encourage them as they disciple their children to know and follow Christ.

As we began our Psalm 23 series this Sunday, I was reminded again why these words have anchored Christians for generations. In a world constantly telling us we need more, David gives us a stunning confession of trust:

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

Because Jesus is our Shepherd, we have all we truly need.

That does not mean life is easy or free from suffering. Psalm 23 speaks honestly about valleys, enemies, fear, and wandering. But the confidence of the Psalm is rooted in something deeper than circumstances: the presence of the Shepherd.

Many of us live exhausted because we are trying to shepherd ourselves. We carry fears, anxieties, disappointments, and burdens that were never meant to rest entirely on our shoulders. Psalm 23 calls us to rest again in the care of Christ, the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for his sheep.

One simple practice I would encourage you to try this week is a breath prayer rooted in Psalm 23:

Breathe in:
“The Lord is my Shepherd.”
Breathe out:
“I have all I need.”

My prayer is that this truth would move beyond a familiar verse and become a settled confidence in your heart. Jesus knows his sheep. He cares for his sheep. And he will never abandon those who belong to him.
