Sunday's sermon was about the renewed man as priest. The call is simple enough to say in one sentence: give yourself away and bring others to God.
But what does this look like functionally on a daily basis?
How are we living lives of sacrifice and intercession?
Giving Ourselves Away (Sacrifice)
The Old Testament priest offered sacrifice. He stood between God and the people and gave something costly on their behalf. Jesus fulfilled that perfectly, once for all, at the cross. Jesus didn't just die for us, he lived for us. And now, as men being renewed by his Spirit, we are called to reflect that same pattern of self-giving in our homes and in our church.
For Your Wife Plan a date this week. Put it on the calendar. Don’t wait for the “right time.” Ask her one meaningful question and actually listen without interrupting or fixing.(Ideas and questions here) Take something off her plate without being asked (bedtime routine, dishes, errands). Put your phone away for an hour and be fully present with her.
This is what it looks like to live for her, not just say you would die for her.
For Your Children When you pull into the driveway, pause and pray: “God, help me show up right now.” Give them 10–15 minutes of undivided attention (play, talk, read, no distractions…put the phone away). Have one intentional conversation about Jesus this week (not formal, just real). Discipline/Correct patiently: slow down, explain, don’t just react.
You’re not just managing behavior, you’re shaping how they see God.
For the Church Show up this Sunday ready to serve, not just attend. Reach out to one person you know is struggling and check in. Say yes to a need, even if it’s inconvenient. Take one step toward serving (team, setup, hospitality, etc.).
Don’t just consume the church. Invest in it.
Bringing Others to God (Intercession)
The priest didn't just offer sacrifice. He interceded.He prayed. He carried the names of the people before God. And Hebrews tells us that Jesus, our great High Priest, is still doing exactly that right now. He is not distant or passive. He is actively, personally praying for his people at the right hand of the Father. That is the model, and we are called to step into it.
For Your Wife Pray for her by name every day this week (her faith, joy, stress, specific needs). Pray with her at least once, keep it simple, even 30 seconds is a start. Ask her, “How can I pray for you this week?” and follow through.
It may feel awkward. Do it anyway.
For Your Children Pray for each child by name every day (salvation, character, specific struggles). Pray out loud over them at bedtime once this week (then fight to build the habit to do this daily). Pick one thing you see in them and ask God to grow it.
You can’t change their hearts, but you can bring them to the One who can.
For the Church Pray for your pastors this week. Pray for your community group by name. When someone shares a need, stop and pray for them right then (even over text).
Be the person who actually prays, not just says you will.
A Final Thought
None of this is about being a better man on your own strength. If Sunday's sermon did anything, I hope it reminded you that Jesus is the true and better High Priest. He gave himself fully. He lives to intercede for you right now. The goal isn't to measure up. The goal is to keep coming back to him, and to let that overflow into the people he's placed in your life.
Start somewhere. Be specific. And trust that the God who hears, answers.
