One of the things I love most about preaching through books of the Bible is that they often confront us with truths we didn't know we needed. I think Philemon is going to be one of those books.
At only twenty-five verses, it's easy to overlook. But tucked inside this short letter is a beautiful picture of what the gospel actually does. Jesus doesn't simply forgive sinners and leave them unchanged. He gives us a new identity, transforms our hearts, and reconciles us not only to God but also to one another.
Over the next few weeks, we'll wrestle with themes like forgiveness, reconciliation, grace, and the kind of love that only the gospel can produce. My prayer is that as we study this letter together, Christ would continue shaping us into a church marked by humility, compassion, and a willingness to pursue one another even when it's costly.
