This past Sunday, we looked at Psalm 78 and the call to build a gospel legacy that reaches beyond ourselves. One of the great tragedies in Israel's history was that one generation failed to tell the next about the mighty works of God. The result was predictable: people forgot the Lord and drifted from His ways.
That passage challenges us to ask a simple question: What kind of legacy are we building?
As followers of Jesus, our lives were never meant to terminate on ourselves. God has called us to invest in things that will outlive us and bear fruit for eternity. That may mean discipling someone who is newer in the faith. It may mean serving and investing in children and students so they grow up knowing and loving Christ. It may mean helping raise up future leaders by opening your life and ministry to others.
For some, that investment may look like leading a Community Group, helping others experience biblical community and grow as disciples. For others, it may mean supporting church planting, sending missionaries, sharing the gospel with a neighbor, or giving generously so the work of Christ continues to advance.
The common thread through all of it is this: we are called to spend our lives for something bigger than ourselves.
One day, every earthly kingdom, accomplishment, and possession will pass away. The Kingdom of God will not. The name of Christ will endure long after our own names are forgotten.
So let us live with eternity in view. Let us invest in people, proclaim the gospel, and build a legacy that points beyond ourselves to Jesus. By God's grace, may future generations know and worship Christ because we were faithful in our generation.
